Laboratories Technical Administration (Labotead)

In 1997 the university’s Vice Chancellor has formed what was called the Technical Committee chaired by the deputy secretary of the academic affairs and with membership of some selected academic staff representing the four campuses to rehabilitate the laboratories and to be responsible for the supply of chemicals, glassware and equipment.

Because of the huge job to be shouldered by such committee, the university Senate has passed in September 2000 a suggestion to form the Laboratories Technical.

A council to govern and approve the policies of the Labotead chaired by the deputy vice chancellor was established.

Since that time the Labotead has worked hard to fulfill the expectations and the table below shows the money being spent (in US dollar).

Since then the Labotead has expanded and up to now it has got glassblowing workshop run by a philipino technician and an electronic workshop run by another philipino and two central research laboratories (opened in Jan. 2006, one in shambat and the the other in the centre, Faculty of Science) and each contains the following instruments (supplied by Shimadzu).
  • Atomic absorption spectrophotometer (flame/graphite).
  • Fourier transformer infrared (FT-IR).
  • Gas chromatography
  • High performance liquid chromatography.
  • Spectrofluorimeter.

The Labotead has managed to supply different modem instruments to the various laboratories of different disciplines.
